Pet travel documents
Vaccination, microchip and health certificates needed to move a pet.
Key facts
| Identity | Microchip, often required first |
|---|---|
| Vaccination | Rabies certificate with dates |
| Health | Export certificate from a vet |
| Testing | Titre test for some destinations |
| Check | Import rules and waiting periods |
The chip comes first
Vaccination records are only valid if they match the pet's microchip. If the chip is implanted after the vaccine, some destinations treat the vaccination as invalid and require a booster and a wait.
Start the process months before the flight. The waiting periods, not the paperwork, set the earliest travel date.
Frequently asked questions
How early should I start?
As early as the destination rules require, and never later than the titre-test waiting period plus certificate processing.
Can my pet travel in the cabin?
Only on routes and airlines that allow it, and only for animals within the size limits.
