Temporary Housing Calculator
The first weeks are usually the most expensive per night. Enter the gap and the nightly rate to see the real bridge cost.
Compare the bridge with a longer initial lease or a serviced apartment. The cheapest nightly rate is not always the cheapest bridge once deposits and commute are counted.
Why the gap exists
Most landlords want to meet the tenant, see income evidence and sign in person. If you arrive without a local bank account or payslip, the approval can take longer than the flight. The gap is therefore part of the plan, not a failure of planning.
Book enough nights to cover a rejected application. Moving between two short lets costs more than paying for a few extra nights in one.
The deposit you may not get back
Temporary housing deposits are sometimes refundable and sometimes not. Treat the deposit as cash you must have available, and check the cancellation terms before paying.
Frequently asked questions
How many nights should I budget?
Start with the time you need to view flats and complete the lease, then add a week. If you need a local bank account first, add the account-opening time as well.
Is a serviced apartment cheaper than a hotel?
Often for stays over two weeks, especially with a kitchen. Compare the all-in nightly cost, including cleaning fees, deposits and commute.
Should storage be in this budget?
Yes if your shipped goods or temporary furniture need a place before the lease starts. It is part of the bridge.
